RepRap Masterclass

Build a RepRap self-replicating 3D-printer with instruction from some of the foremost members of the RepRap project.

We run masterclasses at good, but budget, locations and at a four-star hotel to try to cater for all requirements and pockets.  If you wish to attend, but want to arrange your own accommodation, please contact us and we will let you know the reduction in price that you will gain.  The taught material for each type of masterclass is the same, as is the provision of RepRap kits to the people attending (see below).

RepRap Masterclass at your site

We will run a RepRap Masterclass at your location.  Costs will depend on where you are, but are typically around £950 per person in the UK, more overseas.  The minimum number of people attending is 10, and the maximum is 30.  Up to ten RepRaps get built, in groups of up to three people.  A RepRap kit* is provided for each person attending.

The RepRap Masterclass runs over two days.  Contact us giving your location, expected numbers and some possible required dates, and we will provide an exact quote.

If you have other requirements (such as wishing to bring a non-participating partner, or wanting to take part in a group without having your own RepRap kit) please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Masterclasses normally run for up to ten individuals or small groups.  Groups can consist of two or three people.  Each individual or group will, over the space of two days, build, commission, and start 3D-printing with a RepRap Huxley self-replicating 3D printer.  Tutors will be constantly on hand to guide you and to help.

The RepRap 3D-printers that you build will be yours (or your company’s) to keep, along with a starting supply of printing plastic.

*Groups will build one RepRap 3D-printer for one of their members.  Individuals will each build their own 3D-printer.  But at the end of the masterclass every other member of a group will get their own RepRap Huxley 3D-printer kit minus the 3D-printed parts, but plus extra plastic.  Then the group’s assembled 3D-printer can be used to print the parts for the machines owned by the other members of the group, who can use the skills they have acquired to assemble their own 3D-printers after the masterclass is complete.

Requirements

Owing to the practical nature of the course and time constraints over the weekend, participants will be required to possess at least the following skills:

- Basic soldering (SMD soldering skills not required)

- Basic mechanical assembly (use of spanners, screwdrivers, Allen keys and measurement tools)

- Basic electrical skills to enable the participants to wire the machine and test for continuity/short circuits (multimeter proficiency)

We ask that participants provide their own tools, consisting at least the following:

- Screwdrivers

- Metric Spanners (M3, M4 and 2xM8 at the very least)

- Metric Allen keys

- Soldering iron, solder

- Digital Multimeter

As well as a Laptop computer running either Linux, Windows or Mac OS (if you run anything else you’re expected to be able to follow and adapt instructions geared towards one of the aforementioned).

Terms & Conditions:

The organisers, together with the instructor team will endeavour to ensure all RepRap 3D printers are fully functional by the end of the Masterclass, but not every eventuality can be foreseen and as such no guarantee can be made that all machines will indeed be fully functional by the end of the Masterclass.

Just like any other mechanical assembly task, the assembly and commissioning of a RepRap 3D printer presents certain (very minor) risks of injury, and participants will be required to take responsibility for managing these.

Course details are subject to change, but all participants will be notified.
